From time to time, I'll hear the question from a new user that has just purchased the Xencelabs Quick Keys say; What are the Dial and Buttons used for on my Quick Keys, and can I customize them?


That is a great question and one we receive from time to time. 


The Quick Keys is designed to be an extension of your hand as you draw and create with one hand. You can use the Quick Keys in your other hand to perform lots of tasks that you would typically need to use your keyboard for. 


Below is a walk-through of the Quick Keys, showing how to access the Setting program to customize your Quick Keys to meet your workflow needs.

Introduction to the Settings program as it relates to the Quick Keys.

** You will want to have your Quick Keys attached to your computer using the USB cable or the Wireless Dongle before opening the Setting program.

To open the Settings program on the Windows operating system; type in Xencelabs in the Windows search window, and select the Xencelabs application.

On the Mac side, click on Finder, select Applications, scroll down to the Xencelabs folder, expand it, and open the Xencelabs program.



You will see this if you only have the Quick Keys attached when you open the Setting program.

[2] Shows the Quick Keys in the Device Window.



If you purchased the Pen Tablet Medium Bundle, this is what you would see when you open the Setting program with all the devices connected to your computer.

If this is the view you are seeing, it shows that the Settings program does not see any Xencelabs devices attached.

A walk-through of the Setting program with respect to the Quick Keys.

[1] When you select My Quick Keys from the navigation pane, this is the view you will have.

There is a lot of information listed here. Once you have used the Setting program a few times, it will fall into place.

[2] The 4 Dial settings are listed here. To customize one of the settings, you will select one of four Modes, and you will be able to change the Dial assignment for that mode.

The Dial settings have two actions; Zoom In, Zoom Out, Increase, or decrease the size of your Brush.

[3] There are eight buttons, and they perform one action; Undo, Redo, add a Layer.

In the center of the buttons is the OLED display. This is where the Button names are displayed. Also, when you change the Dial Modes, the mode will be displayed in the center of the OLED.

[4] These are the four settings you can use to create two action functions.

By default, they are named Mode 1, 2, 3, and 4. Their names can be changed by accessing the Options dropdown menu.

[5] This is the functions name that will be displayed on the Quick Keys OLED when the Dial button is pressed.

[6] This shows the action or the Keyboard shortcut that will be performed.

[7] Additional settings for the Dial Sensitivity and the Dial Color.

[8] This row shows the five sets that can be used for an application.

Within each set, there are eight buttons that give you a total of 44 custom settings for each application.

[9] Each button can be customized to perform a specific action. That can be a keyboard shortcut, a combination, or a selection from the Navigation or Application menus.

To move through the five sets (or groups), press the Set button. 

[10] There are customizations you can perform on the Sets; rename them, enable, and deactivate them.

[11] To make changes to the Sets, click on Options, and the dropdown menu will show you what can be changed or customized.

[12, 13] You can Enable and Rename a Set. The Set name is what is viewed on the Quick Keys OLED for a few seconds then the Set button is pressed. 

[14] Always remember that each panel has a reset that you can use.

If you have made a couple of changes and the behavior of the Quick Keys is not working the way you had thought it should. You can click the rest button in the lower-left corner, and it will reset the Quick Keys section you are into Factory Default settings.

** Every panel you can customize within the Setting program has this feature.
