When using HP Anyware (formerly known as Teradici) and other PCoIP-type remote software, you may experience some settings being grayed out and disabled. In the case of HP Anyware, limitations in their software architecture necessitate deactivating certain display settings to help facilitate faster transmission speeds to the Host.
Whether or not these settings will be deactivated while using PCoIP software depends upon the method your system is using to connect. There are two ways of connecting—Local Termination mode (used for connection speeds greater than 30ms), and Bridge mode (used for connection speeds of less than 30ms). Your system will automatically choose the method of connection based on networking speed. Effectively, this means that if your networking speed is slower (taking longer than 30ms to connect), it will use Local Termination mode.
When connected via Local Termination, this is when you will experience the grayed out display settings. If you have a faster network (and are able to connect in less than 30ms), your system will be able to do so via Bridge mode, and all settings will remain functional. Bridge mode is a better connection; however, it does not have some of the optimizations that Local Termination affords. For example, one silver lining of Local Termination mode is that you may perceive less lag due to the cursor location being processed on the Client end instead of at the Host.
Here are the settings that will be disabled when connected via Local Termination:
Panels that will have grayed-out controls | Screenshots |
Pen Display Page: Pen Display button colors and brightness
Quick Actions: Display brightness, contrast, and wake with pen setting
Color Settings: All color spaces and the ability to change color space
Display Controls: settings relating to the Virtual Tablet and Display Switch Cycle |
If you need access to these functions while in Local Termination mode, you will need to disconnect from the HP Anyware session (at which point full driver functionality will be restored) and make your Settings Panel selections. You can then reconnect to an HP Anyware session, and your previously selected settings will remain active even though the driver shows them as grayed out.
If you want to have consistent remote access to all Settings Panel features, you’ll need to ensure Bridge mode connection. Below are some ways you may try to improve your network connection speed to facilitate this:
- Make sure your operating system is current with all updates.
- Change your DNS setting for faster browsing.
- Disable power-saving mode that slows down connectivity.
- Prioritize bandwidth for gaming and streaming.
- Reduce background updates while you are connected via PCoIP.
- If you have older network devices (routers and hubs) upgrading to new versions can greatly increase your network connection speed.
