By default, your macOS will detect that the Pen Display 16 will run in the 10-bit color depth channel. 


Going into the Graphics/Display report in your System Report lets you see what the Pen Display 16 is running at 10-bit color depth.



To access the report to the right:

Click on the Apple in the upper left corner > select About My Mac > at the bottom select System Report.

[1] Then select Graphics/Displays.

[2] You will see the Pen Display listed.

[3] In the row for Framebuffer Depth, you will see 30-bit.

Apple breaks out each of the RGB color channels separately. The example below shows how that adds up to 30-bit color depth.

R=10 + G=10 + B=10 = 30-bit color depth.
