Sudden jerky movements of pointer, brush, crosshair

It's been going on for a while and I've learned to live with it but out of the blue on irregular intervals and at least twice a week my Xencelabs medium pen tablet seems to have a live of its own by frantically moving the crosshair, pointer or brush (depending in what program I am) and activating menu's or opening and closing things as if it's randomly controlled by someone else. It takes maybe just 2-5 seconds, the process is like a fast forward motion and when I remove my hand that holds the pen of the surface of the tablet it just keeps going. After that, unnecessary windows are open, commands that I do not want to be activated are activated, the program I use has been minimized or the window shifted that it's half on the screen and now just before I post this the program I was using just closed without saving the work I was busy on (a 3D model). I lost a 3 hours of generating content whereby I thought to address the issue now. In the past I have been able to get back to the normal state just before a 'burst' happened by pressing ctrl-z (in Photoshop whereby random paint strokes or lines where appearing) but it's not always been possible.

The tablet and pen work fine for the rest but these 'bursts' are quite annoying especially when work is lost. I tried to record my screen in the past at irregular intervals but have not been able to record such a 'burst'.

Any advise or any one else that has experienced this?     


Sorry to hear that is happening to you. It sounded like it may be an issue with the pen. I would like you to send an email to CustomerCare@xencelabs.com and work with a Xencelabs agent to determine what the issue.


They will help you test the pen to make sure the pen is working properly.


There is a diagnostics application in the Settings panel that will test the pen to make sure it is not the issue.

That's crazy. I've had the exact same thing from the beginning of owning this tablet. I figured it would just be me. When it starts, even when I put the pen away from the tablet, it just goes and goes causing all kinds of havoc on what I have open at the time. Unfortunately it's completely random, and I'm unable to make it happen to get the evidence so to speak. It might be a few times in one day, or it might go weeks without it happening.

If your Xencelabs device is not working as you think it should, please reach out to Customer Care and have us work with you to resolve the issue. Please do not settle for something that just sort of works some of the time. That is crazy and not what I want to hear!

 

I have just received the pen tablet bundle. Everything worked perfectly including setting up the driver. However, 5 times within the first 4 hours of use the cursor started randomly jumping around on the screen while randomly clicking things. It would do this for a few seconds and then return to normal. While it was happening there was nothing I could do to stop it. I have gone through all of the tests in the pen diagnostics article and everything seems ok. I can't discern a pattern in the occurrences, each time I was doing a different thing on the screen. It doesn't seem related to any actions like touching the pen to the tablet or pressing the buttons. I have reached out to customer service but wanted to also comment publicly here in case anyone has a solution.

You have created a ticket and are working with an agent in Europe. It does sound like the wireless dongle is picking up some EMI (Electromagnetic Interference). With our office setups, rearranging or moving things around our desks can sometimes be a challenge.


If you would like to share an image of your desk, I would be happy to take a look to see what might be causing the possible EMI.


I suggest if you have not done this already, to place the wireless dongle in another USB port and test it that way. Not all USB ports are created equal, and some cause interference themselves.

Once I disconnected the wireless dongle and used a hard-wired connection the jumping cursor went away. Just my two cents.

I've had this exact problem, did anyone figure out the problem (other than going back to wired) ? 

The above issue sounded like EMI (Electromagnetic Interference). Something close to the wireless dongle or the Quick Keys or Pen Tablet that is generating interference. 


This can be hard to run down, but what I suggest is that you try moving things you think might be causing issue as far away as you can from the wireless dongle. 


In my case it was the NAS drive bay I was using. Once I moved that to the other side of my desk, my EMI issue went away.

I tried every USB port on my workstation over the last years since I bought my Xencelabs and every time when it looked that the issue was resolved it appeared suddenly again. It took me weeks to 'catch the jerk movement ghost' in action by occasionally recording my desktop and I succeeded (see attached at 6s it starts). My latest and only left resort is that I found just one more USB port to test which is the one at the back of my monitor that is also the closest to the tablet. I'm about 1.5 weeks in and fingers crossed. I'm not sure if it's due to EMI though as I've relocated for work with my workstation to at least 3-4 other places since I had the Xencelabs tablet but it always was there. If it would just that jerky movement it would be ok but I had occasions that files got selected and repositioned and almost even deleted. One more solution is to buy a new Xencelabs USB dongle but if that's not working I guess I need to roll back to the brand I used the last 25 years.
